Ken Bailey
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I was born in Salt Lake City (1953), have lived in Denver and in Seattle
since 1980. Besides Seattle, I have been represented at various times
in Phoenix, Palm Desert, Aspen and Taos. I am now represent in Tokyo
by Cheiko Yamamoto, Mark Bergsma Gallery in Bellingham, WA, Poppy
in Columbia, MO Victoria Boyce Galleries in Scottsdale and Tucson;
and Urban Dogs in Tacoma, Washington.
My philosophy On style:
"I have always been interested in working in a unique style,
which precludes almost any representational style or historical painting
style. Neither did I want to copy anybody or derive a style, even
though there are many artists whose work I enjoy. The styles I paint
in have taken a while to develop, but I like the idea that people
recognize the uniqueness".
I see myself as a contemporary expressionist, with surreal influences
Whatever my subject matter is, the presentation is clearly contemporary.
My goal as an artist is to develop visual mythologies of recognizable
subjects and symbols.
In addition, I want my work to be clean and well executed. I want
to evoke a feeling of elegance and serenity, even if there is movement".
